SUMMARY

With roughly 50 GW of installations and another 100 GW targeted to reach India’s ambitious 500 GW renewables installations mark by the end of the decade, the wind power sector is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. Policy support in the form of enabling bidding guidelines and continued industry confidence is expected to drive uptake in the sector.

After a few years of enduring setbacks, the country’s wind power space has received a boost partly due to the growing corporate procurement of renewable power and also due to the increasing demand for solar-wind hybrids and round-the-clock renewables by utilities as well as the commercial and industrial clients. Thus, there have been a round of successful auctions as well as the implementation of projects for group-captive and open access power procurement.

Industry and government interest in the offshore wind space is further expected to give further impetus to the wind power sector. Meanwhile, the repowering of older wind turbines will create new development opportunities in the space.

On the technology side, the turbine size is increasing, and digital tools are being integrated into the O&M of wind power projects. Meanwhile, the expected growth in wind power capacity additions and the emerging offshore wind space is expected to create new opportunities for domestic manufacturers of wind turbines.

The mission of this two-day conference on Wind Power in India is to discuss the growth trends, policy environment, industry perspective and plans, technology trends, key issues and outlook for wind power development in India, focusing on upcoming opportunities in offshore wind, hybrids and repowering. It will bring together policymakers, regulators, power utilities, grid operators, developers, wind turbine manufacturers, technology providers, contractors, O&M service providers, consultants and financiers to discuss the key challenges and explore solutions for accelerated growth in India’s wind power sector.
